Seven Features of the Building

The Building of Kanda Church has recently been registered as a tangible
cultural property by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
Kanda Catholic Church was established in January, 1874, one of the historic spots among Tokyo churches. The present building was completed in 1928 based on a plan drawn by Father Cherel, a French missionary.
Some traces of the original building are still retained. It is the structure designed by Max Hinder fusing the Romanesque style into the Renaissance style.
The building holds the following
features.
1) Around ONE alter, any Christian may gather.
2) Between TWO dimensions of Heaven and Earth
3) THREE transformations of Jesus Christ (Cross, the Host and Resurrection), we behold
4) FOUR images (St . Mary, St .John, St .Anna and St .Joseph) speak to people,
5) FIVE doors (front and behind) are open,
6) The SIX pillars on either side (12 in total) represent the apostles and the people of God
7) SEVEN windows symbolize the sacraments of the church.
